CNC XYZ Lathe Machinist

- Salary: £36,787.35 to £38,818.68 per annum + overtime.
- Working hours: 07:25am - 15:25pm Monday - Thursday & 07:25am - 13:00pm Friday, 38hrs per week.
About the Opportunity
An established and highly respected engineering manufacturer is seeking an experienced CNC XYZ Lathe Machinist to join its skilled workshop team in Alfreton. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a precision engineering environment, producing high-quality components for a diverse range of industrial applications.
The successful candidate will be a skilled machinist with experience programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes, ideally with XYZ Prototrak controls. A strong understanding of machining processes, precision engineering, and interpretation of technical drawings is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program, set, and operate CNC XYZ lathe machines to manufacture precision-engineered components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting inserts, and materials for production requirements.
- Create new CNC programs and modify existing programs where required.
- Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Carry out internal taper turning and other complex machining operations.
- Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting production issues.
- Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and workshop procedures.
- Contribute to a clean, organised, and efficient working environment.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes.
- Experience with XYZ Prototrak controls is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting speeds, feeds, and tooling selection.
- Experience producing precision components to tight tolerances.
- Competent in the use of precision measuring instruments.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent engineering qualification preferred.
- Previous experience within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
