The Foundry Technician is a practical hands-on position, with initial maintenance/first fix approach and some supervision skills.
The Foundry Technician should acquire complete understanding of the FGD (Flue Gas Desulphurisation) process, become proactive in fault finding and problem solving by using own initiative, and taking ownership and accountability for the area and process.
Job Duties:
- Ensuring that the Flue Gas Desulphurisation Plant (FGD) and area is operated in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
- Develop awareness of the Key Process Controls and H+S of the FGD plant that include control of pH, sulphite, SO2, solids, lime and caustic dosing, usage and potential exposure.
- Understanding permit levels.
- Accountable for the area and plant, effectively taking ownership of the FGD.
- Daily reporting and updating information / problems / faults via online production log, EAM and emails as required.
- Checking SCADA (all pages) for correct plant operation and reviewing alarms and trends for faults / issues and either initial fault find and fix, (hand on) report via EAM or serious issues directly with the Shift Maintenance Team Leader and Smelting Supervisor.
- Work to operating procedures /JI’s and CILS, ensuring sufficient familiarity with them and to lead updating and issuing new ones.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the FGD areas to a high standard.
- Aid / support contractors and maintenance team as and when required.
- Consult with other process workers, Team Leaders, and other personnel in any relevant department to ensure smooth running of the FGD plan and any issues / incidents which could negatively affect other plants.
- Ensure all chemicals and reagents used in the FGD area are checked, topped up and re-ordered where necessary.
- Supervise tanker deliveries / complete gypsum collections and other contractors as and when required in the FGD area.
- Request support (such as gypsum collections) as and when needed to ensure smooth running of the plant.
- Proactive in process improvements and striving for continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Self‑motivated and able to work proactively using own initiative.
- GCSE‑equivalent qualifications at grade 4/C or above, in Science, Maths, and English.
- Strong IT proficiency with good communication skills.
- MCP Mechanical Maintenance skills, or willingness to attain the qualification.
Working hours: Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4pm.
Salary: approximately £33,000 Per Annum.
This is a Full time, Permanent position.
