Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced and driven R&D Manager to join their established team based at their Chesterfield headquarters.
This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of product development projects from concept through to launch, working within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
The Role
As R&D Manager, you will lead the development, testing, and enhancement of innovative systems while ensuring full compliance with UK and EU standards. You’ll work closely with internal teams, customers, certification bodies, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality, fully compliant products.
You will be responsible for driving innovation, improving existing product ranges, and ensuring technical excellence across all R&D activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement R&D strategies aligned with market trends and customer requirements
- Lead product innovation projects, including new finishes, hardware, configurations, and system improvements
- Manage the full prototype lifecycle from technical drawings through to testing and certification
- Maintain expert knowledge of industry regulations including BS 476, EN 1634, and PAS 24
- Ensure all technical documentation and testing records are accurate, compliant, and audit-ready
- Produce and review technical specifications, CAD drawings, and product documentation
- Provide technical support and guidance to production, QA, installation, and sales teams
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and milestones to ensure successful delivery
- Liaise with customers, fabricators, installers, test houses, and certification bodies
- Drive continuous improvement and support knowledge sharing across the business
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in an R&D Manager or senior technical development role
- Strong technical and compliance background within manufacturing or engineered products
- Extensive knowledge of BS 476, EN 1634, PAS 24, and third-party certification processes
- Experience managing accredited testing and factory production controls
- Strong CAD skills, ideally with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
- Excellent technical specification writing and documentation skills
- Ability to lead multiple projects and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a solutions-focused mindset
