Senior Buyer
Location: South Kirkby
Salary: £35,000–£45,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week – Monday to Thursday 8:00am–4:30pm, Friday 8:00am–1:30pm
We are looking for an experienced Senior Buyer to join a busy Procurement team within a growing manufacturing business. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for sourcing, supplier management, commercial negotiations and ensuring materials and services are delivered on time and to the required quality.
Working closely with Engineering, Production, Planning, Quality and Projects, you’ll play a key role in supporting project delivery and developing a reliable, cost-effective supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day purchasing activities and purchase orders
- Source materials, fabricated components, engineered products and subcontract services
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and BOMs
- Obtain quotations and negotiate pricing, lead times and commercial terms
- Monitor and improve supplier performance across cost, quality and delivery
- Expedite orders and resolve supply chain issues
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Support supplier development, cost reduction and strategic sourcing initiatives
- Identify and manage supply chain risks
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure on-time delivery
- Support tendering and continuous improvement projects
About You
- Previous experience as a Buyer or Senior Buyer within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of manufacturing supply chains and technical procurement
- Experience sourcing fabricated components, materials and engineered products
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Strong negotiation, commercial and supplier management skills
- Proactive approach to problem solving and improving supplier performance
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in heavy engineering, power generation, electrical manufacturing or another regulated sector would be advantageous
- CIPS qualification or working towards it would be desirable
